Terrific Improvement
Yes, the new intermediate steering shaft sat around for 9 months until I got around to putting it in... but what a difference! I had the classic GM steering wheel *clunk* in my 2003 Sierra. GMC had done something about it once at about 30,000 miles, but it came back before too long and now that my truck has 111,000 miles on it I felt compelled to try this replacement. Installation was pretty easy. The nuts holding the gas pedal bracket and the bracket itself must be removed to get the old shaft out, but that's a quick process.

To ease installation, I did grind a small chamfer on the end of the shaft that goes into the engine compartment. I don't believe that the lower steering shaft female receptacle was deformed, the Dorman shaft is just a really tight fit. I also had to grab the shaft with a pair of locking pliers and tap the shaft into position with a hammer. Does this mean that the part didn't fit properly? I don't think so... I'm thrilled that it fit snugly. I'm...

Great Price - working flawlessly so far! Thanks Dorman and Amazon!
After about two years of irritation with the clunking and rattling of the steering (during low speed turns)in my 2003 Suburban, I bought the Dorman intermediate steering shaft based on the reviews and low price on Amazon. Shipping was free and fast. I also purchased the anti-rotation locking pin, but it was really not necessary because a bungee cord worked fine. The installation was a little difficult because I followed the directions which said to keep the wheels straight. The nuts were not easily accessible when the wheel was straight. I simply turned the wheel to allow access to the nut in the engine bay - which I loosened to just finger tight. Then I turned the wheel to allow access to the nut under the dash. This worked for me. After that, getting the old shaft out was a breeze, but I did have to move the gas pedal. So far, the new shaft has no movement, rattling, or clunk. Thanks Dorman and Amazon. Now, if you could make affordable rear AC lines for the Suburban...
Great Price-Fixed the Clunk
I recently installed this shaft in my 04 Sierra 1500. Very simple procedure. I used the shoulder harness through the steering wheel to keep it straight and locked. Steering is now tighter and no clunking. This has to be one of the cheapest fixes I've done. Thanks Amazon!
